Interview with Candice Coates, Prophet #BlogBattle Winner

Candice Coates

I appreciate a great deal about Blog Battles, but my favorite part is the battlers themselves.

Today we get to learn more about last week’s winner, Candice Coates. She tied with another great battler, Andrew S., and I think you’ll enjoy both their Prophet stories!

So, Candice! I’m pleased as punch you were able to drop by today for a little chat. It’s always nice spending time with you. You’re just an encouraging and kind young woman.

I have a few questions for you today, and we’re all very curious to hear your answers!

1) You’re a creative soul who has devoted your entire blogging experience to developing your artistic voice and in several different ways. As an artist, what is one thing which inspires you in your creativity the most?

What inspires me most is curiosity. When I see color and form I have this burning desire to mimic it or recreate it, transpose it if you will. I like to imagine and then see what the shape of a woman could be or a man or a bird. What would become of their form if they were turquoise, if their lines were sharper? These are the things that inspire me. Possibility and lack of limits inspire me. I also have a similar experience with artistry as I do with writing, but I have learned how to better tame that urge, in that I can go quite some time without creating art and not become a grumpy goat. But if I don’t write and write often, my mood does change.

I love how you describe your inspiration! You put into words something I find myself feeling when I look at things and people. And I know exactly what you mean about mood and writing. You have a beautiful way with words, my friend.

2) You speak more than one language? What languages do you know? Which is your favorite, and why?

I am fluent in Spanish, I understand Portuguese and can speak it in somewhat of a broken manner, I know a bit of German and Irish Gaelic, and I am currently polishing my French. I also know some Hindi as I love Bollywood films. As far as favorites go, I have to say I don’t have a favorite. I simply love to communicate and I find when encountering a stranger whose second language is English, if you can relate to them in their native tongue it makes them more comfortable. They emit a sense of greater ease, knowing they won’t get lost in translation with you being there.

I find language beautiful, written and spoken. I’m a little jealous and wish I’d spent time from a young age learning at least one other language fluently. Je parle un peu français. Actually, Je ne parle pas français anymore. 🙂

3) If you were visited by an alien and offered the most beautiful singing voice, one which could calm the anger of men and lead people wherever you chose in exchange for your feet, would you take it?

I would NOT! All I could image is the alien turning me into a Siren and every time I would open my mouth I would be leading men to their deaths. My vain desire for a great voice would become my prison. No no no! LOL.

Not to mention it would be difficult to lead anyone anywhere without your feet. 😉 No, I like my feet better, too.

You always have a way of bringing a smile to my face. Thanks for stopping by, Candice! It has been a real pleasure getting to know you!

Thank you, our friends, for stopping by and hanging out with us while we chatted! We love our battlers and getting to know them is the best!

  3. Well done on the win Candice, and I really enjoyed this interview. 🙂 I’m jealous of your language skills. i started to learn French a while ago, but got stuck and gave up. I would love to be fluent in French, or any other language.

  6. I had such a great time answering your questions AND I love how you’ve mixed french with English. But you can’t say you don’t speak it anymore because you just did lol. That is unless you mean to retire now 😉

          1. I don’t know how much time you have during a day but there is a free app that you can use on your phone, tablet or computer called Duolingo. There are a great list of language courses created by native speakers and in less than 5 minutes a day you can sharpen those old skills. (I sound like an infomercial haha)
