#BlogBattle One Year Anniversary

Click here to go to Week 53 Entries & Voting Page for the One Year Anniversary!

It’s been a year of creative writing, and I’m thrilled to be celebrating this milestone with you!

Thank you all so much for being a part of the first year of #BlogBattle. I wouldn’t have ever thought to host this weekly prompt meant to inspire creativity and friendship without the competitive prodding of Nicholas Hughes and Blonde(Lucy)WriteMore, both of whom have been avid supporters. Blonde has never missed a battle!

Others who have shown up every week since the beginning are E. Rawls and PhoenixGrey. Kudos for your diligence and commitment! And then there are those of you who found out about the battles along the way and joined in, just as committed and just as creative. I am so impressed by you all.

BlogBattle award 1

In fact, because you show up week after week I am encouraged to keep going. If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t be celebrating! Congrats to you all and thank you.

To celebrate, next week we will not be writing a new story for the battle. For Week 53 here is what I want from anyone and everyone who has ever battled:

  1. Choose one of your #BlogBattle stories from the past year
  2. Edit it however you would like
  3. Reblog/repost it next week on Tuesday, March 15th.
  4. Make sure you specify the genre and the theme word

We will do our voting from the compilation of awesome stories presented!

As a side note: I haven’t had time to create new ones or update the battlers pages for a couple of months. There’s just too much on my plate. It’s simple enough, I know, but it does take time I just don’t have, so I want to encourage each of you to make a ‘Blogbattle’ Category on your blog and/or a #BlogBattle page where you can post links to all your stories. It would be easier for me if I only needed to add a link back to your page of posts instead of me trying to link to every single story every week!

In the comments below, I would love it if you’d share a favorite memory or comment you received during Blog Battles. Just something that stood out in your mind and encouraged you to keep writing!

Congrats on a great first year of #BlogBattle!

  1. Congratulations, Rachael! It’s a really HUGE milestone… All the very best for the coming year and hopefully this year I’ll be there to learn and contribute as much as I can! ❀
And what a coincidence, today is my book blog's 2nd Anniversary! πŸ˜€

I came here to see this week's topic but looks like I'll have to wait for the next one. But no worries! I'll be happy to participate from next week. πŸ™‚
Have a great day and a fun week!

      1. Hey, Phoenix!!! You’re the one who inspired me to participate in Blog Battle. I love reading your stories and I must say that you’ve really got a beautiful series out of this.
I’m also planning on sticking to one story and then seeing how it comes around. I really need to write the next parts of the two I already started on Describli… The prompts there are not helping me with those two stories. So, I thought maybe here I can get some prompts that will πŸ™‚
As always I’d really appreciate your help if I get stuck somewhere…
(It’s like we’ve been school buds for long and now I’ve joined the same tuitions as yours. Hehe!)
        Have an awesome day ❀

        1. Thank you. I’m enjoying writing Winter, though sometimes fitting the prompt word in each week is a challenge, but one I, usually, enjoy. πŸ™‚ I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I’m not sure if I’m up to date with your two Describli stories or not. I’ll have to take a look and see. πŸ™‚
I like your school analogy. πŸ˜€

  2. wow its been a year, congrats and all the best and so many sweet thoughts hope you get mental cavities….. hahahaha well I joined #Blogbattle a bit later on but have loved every week and prompt of it even the awkward ones which I would repeat and repeat saying the word out loud hoping inspiration comes ☺

At first I was just randomly making up stories to write for the prompts but somewhere along all this I realised its not several different stories its one epic tangle of a story I have no idea where exactly its going yet but every tale is connected some more obviously than others and in this spirit will be editing one of my first blogbattles to make the character more recognizable as a character I have been recently writing about whoop whoop

so long and thanks for all the Blogbattles

    1. Haha! Thanks, B! Mental cavities abound! I should probably see the doctor . . . πŸ˜‰ I enjoy seeing the emerging connection between your stories, too. If you’d not have said that, I never would have realised it wasn’t intentional from the beginning. πŸ™‚ I’m making a guess in my mind about who that character might be!

  3. You are amazing for pulling all of this together every week for one whole year! You’re Super Woman in disguise, right?

It’s fun to think back to the very first weeks of BlogBattle, and us trying to figure out how to decide who the winners should be, even writing up a check list for it, lol. πŸ˜€
Two memories that stand out for me in the BlogBattles was my win “Cosmic Hunter” and all the jokes we made about the fabulous Hunter since then! πŸ˜€
And second would be the week’s prompt word “madness” as it led me to write a weekly novel I never thought I’d have time or energy for! BlogBattle proved me wrong, and kept me writing it week after week, no matter what. πŸ˜€

    1. You are amazing, E! Those are such great memories! πŸ™‚ I really don’t think I could do this every week without the support and encouragement and dedication of everyone pulling together to write each week. It’s because of your dedication that I have a reason to host this. I love it!

  4. A whole year of stories. I haven’t been around for all of it, but I’ve enjoyed being a part. The discipline of trying to get a story done every week has been incredibly valuable–as has meeting all the wonderful Blog Battlers. Thanks so much, Rachael. I really appreciate it. πŸ™‚

  6. Wow, a year! Amazing. πŸ™‚ I can’t really believe it. It has been an amazing year of writing Winter and coming up with creative ways to fit the prompt word each week. Thank you Rachael for running this, and being so encouraging and wonderful. πŸ™‚ I’ve struggled to stick to committing to write regularly in the past and doing this each week has really helped with writing even when I don’t necessarily feel like or feel “inspired”.

My favourite memory has to be the week I won. I was so amazed that people would vote for my story. A great confidence boost for a writer with, well, not much. πŸ™‚

    1. I know exactly what you mean, and those are the qualities of a writer I want to encourage and reinforce: writing even when it’s hard, when we don’t feel inspired. It’s in those moments where we really grow as a writer, as with many things. Doing hard things is almost always good for building character. πŸ™‚ I love to see the growth and creative twists you are able to take each week with the prompt words! You always rise to the challenge!

    1. It’s actually NEXT week that we aren’t writing one! hahaha!!! There are still 23 hours within which to write one for this week if you’re still up for it. Otherwise, choose one for next week to edit(if you want) and repost for the anniversary. πŸ™‚

  7. Congratulations! I can’t believe it’s only been a year. I joined in kind of late and have had spotty attendance but have enjoyed every single week I’ve participated (writing and reading). Fiction really isn’t my “thing” but I love writing it. Always have.
    Thank you. ❀
Thank you for taking the time and energy to set up this prompt every week. It's a fab place to practice the craft and have fun doing it.

  8. If i make a blog battle tab do i have to link back every week? It is a pain like you said. I love the battle. Thx for all the work you do supporting it. I’ve met the best people here.

    1. The easiest easy to make it so your story is always accessible via page tab on your menu is to add a blogbattle category then add the category as a link on your menu bar. Then every time you post a blogbattle story, make sure to categorize it under that category and it will always show up at the top of that page when you click blogbattle on your menu.

        1. It looks like now you just need to add the category to your menu bar. I made a bluff post last night explaining how to do that in case anyone wanted to but had never done it before. Or at least hasn’t done it since all the WP changes.

            1. I’m going to revamp the Battler’s page to just be links to everyone’s blog with the hope that you’ll all make a menu option for blogbattle to make it super easy for people to get right to your list of fabulous battle stories on your blog. I think it will take out one extra step and save some time for all of us in the long run. I’ll still be doing a weekly post with all the specific theme stories, so that won’t change.

  9. I couldn’t get my head around how you managed any of this at any time as well as writing books and publishing. Of course, I don’t have that energy anymore, you still have a family and kids and life to contend with. Bravo. Kudos. Congratulations on a whole year’s run. I have enjoyed our association. I’ve met fantastic bloggers and writers. This has been a superb opportunity for meand I thank YOU. ❀ ❀ ❀ I jumped from 100-word challenges to 10X that because I DID need the experience and I learned here. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Thank YOU.

  10. One whole year! That’s amazing! Congrats on such an amazing accomplishment! It’s amazing to me that you can coordinate this every week. πŸ™‚

My favorite memory? I think it would have to be the response and all the welcomes I got for my very first entry “The Cosmic Cheesehead”. The whole process of BlogBattles has really encouraged me and helped me improve as a writer.

    1. That’s excellent, Claire! And I am so happy you’re a part of battles. Encouraging and improving as writers while making friends is exactly why we do this! ❀ πŸ™‚ Here's to Cosmic Cheeseheads across the galaxy!

  11. So awesome to be a part of this! I know I came kind of late to the party, but still, I’m really glad to be here. πŸ˜€ And just to make sure, you are still posting the previous week’s stories tomorrow, yeah? The “hair” prompt?
