    1. Thanks Dan! It’s actually too late because participation has dwindled to just a couple people, and inconsistently so. It’s a lot of upkeep, and I decided to let it go. I’m going to work on a different prompt idea in the near future. I want something that’s easy for people but also helpful. If you have ideas or want to collaborate, I’m all over that!

        1. Blog Battle was growing/steady until I gave it it’s own blog space and added a genre requirement/suggestion. haha Beware making changes! I enjoy hosting a prompt weekly, though, so I’m going to work on something that will be more of a weekly or maybe once monthly lesson challenging, highlighting some aspect of writing like not using thought verbs, or working on character development instead of plot and vice versa, etc.

  1. I believe my ping back actually pinged back…which is kinda cool as it was new tech 🤔

Do you list all the ping backs in one place or are they scattered around the posts making it a trolling exercise to find everyone 🙃

Not expecting much myself, but…mines an exercise in deciding if a short story on the five word wheeze could, in fact, be more. Any feedback on the score would be brilliant re a new story in progress or even a serialisation.

    Hope alls well 😊

    1. It worked Gary. You won’t have to troll about. As soon as I am at a computer I’ll add the link to the 61 “surfer” post so it’s under a genre heading even! Looking forward to reading this one! 🙂

      1. Thanks Rachael…not sure about thus one but if it turns a bigger story then maybe there is hope 🤔 But 61 surfer post?? Say what…are you complicating things for me already 😁

        1. As long as you’re having fun, working your writer muscles, and making some friends, I’m happy see you writing (and enjoying what you write, frankly). And don’t mind my shorthand there with the current blog battle title. It just means this is battle 61 and the word is “surfer”. I have and “entries and voting” post that I do for every battle and that is where I list all the links that have been so kindly pinged back to me. 🙂 You are on it now! https://blogbattlers.wordpress.com/2016/05/24/blogbattle-61-surfer-entries-voting/

            1. Voting will open tomorrow (or my tomorrow as I’m in Pacific time) when I add the poll. For today, everyone gets to post their stories. 🙂 The poll will be added down under all the stories. 🙂

        1. I got the numbers mixed up on the main blog battle page and I think also on last week’s header, but Leviathan was 54 this week is indiscriminate week 55 and next week 56 is Ticket. Sorry for the confusion.

  2. Hi, Rachael. I’ve written my very first BlogBattle story today! Yay, I’m so excited.
    Here’s a link to my post: http://heenarathorep.com/2016/03/22/weep-a-while-longer/
Hope the content is not too dark for other community members. I’m a crime-thriller author and most of my stories are dark fiction. Let me know if get’s too creepy or weird for fitting in PG 13 and I’ll add a warning- 16 years and above or something like that.
It’ll take a week for me to warm up to word prompts (as I’m accustomed to writing for photo prompts.) I’ll try my best 🙂

    Have a great day!

    1. Heena, I’m so excited to have you join! 🙂 Thanks for making the battles part of your writing inspiration. I’ll be sure to give you a heads up if it gets a little too dark, but some creepy and weird probably isn’t bad.

  3. Hi, Rachael! I have a few friends who participate in Blog Battle and I love reading their posts a lot. So, finally, I’ve decided to participate in this myself… 🙂
I stay in India, so there’s going to be a huge time difference, but I’ll figure it put and try to post my stories on time. [Just out of curiosity, will it be okay if the post gets a little late, say a day?]
Looking forward to reading other blogger’s stories as well 🙂

    1. So glad to hear you want to join the Battles Heena! 🙂 I’m pretty lenient on timeframes, but keeping it as close to the time as possible is great. For instance, it is now 2AM on Tuesday for me. There are 22 hours left to post a story for this week. If it takes you 30 hours from now, that’s still okay. I just want to get all the stories by my wednesday noon so that I can make the poll for voting. 🙂 I hope that’s helpful information! ❤

      1. Thanks a lot, Rachael. Right now it is 3:40 PM Tuesday here (GMT+5:30) so I’m almost 11 hours ahead… Hmmm. I’ll participate from next week and will coordinate the timings accordingly ☺
        Thanks again. Appreciate it 😊

          1. Just figured it out (had to ask my hubby to make me understand when to post my posts. Lol!) Now I understand the time thing completely (yay!)
I still have a lot of time… so I’ll try and see if I can get something written for this week’s battle. If not then next one for sure!
I already write flash fiction for Describli and I love it, so I’m sure I’m going to enjoy Blog Battle as well ❤
Thanks a TON, Rachael! So excited to be a part of the Battles!

  4. Oh!… *realizes that she sent it in a message, not in a comment, so she doesn’t know where a reply would wind up, so she’ll just post her question here* I’m wondering if there’s any wiggle room with the word count… Can it be a little over 1000? I mean, not by much, definitely not more than 200 words, but I’m doing my best to keep it as low as possible. I’m just asking if I would be disqualified if I went a little over? (And I’m asking for the “Pure” theme, so I need to know soon, if that’s okay.) Thanks!

    1. I got your email and just replied. 🙂 Sorry for the confusion. I think I’m going to have to remove the Contact box because it seems to cause a lot of issues. Not to worry, though, because I do get the emails! 🙂

  5. I’ve made up a form to sign up for updates to my website. I know, finally. If you wish to stay informed of my stories and other posts, please visit and fill out the simple form. Then, let me know how it worked for you.
*Also posting this on the page you have set up for my #BlogBattles.*

      1. Yeah, when you submitted, there should have been a pop up picture of a Red Griffin with the password superimposed on it. It’s Barbarian, if you still want to see the landing page. I put a password so that page isn’t viewable by the general public. Suggestions?

            1. I wonder if I have to delete the one you did already. I have it set up so people already registered won’t see it anymore.
Try going directly to the page. I took off the password and just made it private, but don’t know if that will work, either. http://wp.me/P5HYzX-cI

  6. I accidentally posted this in the incorrect comment box, so have been asked to try again:

As Rachael already knows, I have begun setting up a new blog where I can re-post all things related to my WIP Challenge Of The Velah, which some may remember the original one disappearing somewhere around the end of September.

I found that I had gotten a backup emailed to me in a .zip file just before, and that has both stories I offered from the timeline of this novel, as well as the comments.
If anyone who made a comment before wishes not to have theirs posted again, please let me know. This is going to be a bit of a lengthy process, not a day and it’s done.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Hi, Rachael!
I have made a “landing page” on my site for the #BlogBattles. http://wp.me/P5HYzX-aM
If nothing else, I’ll just post links on that page to all my stories entered, but would rather make them all sub pages instead of posts.
(By the way, I do have a story for tomorrow. You probably won’t like it much- it, once again, leans toward the Horror genre. Apologies. I really don’t plan to execute most all my creations. That’s just how it ends out sometimes.)

    1. Congratulations, Nick! You win this handy-dandy spork! But wait! There’s more! There are two doors, A and B. Behind one of these doors is a trip for two to the hurricane torn coast of Mexico and the other is a pair of knee socks. Which door will you pick?

            1. You named your dog Hashtag? X-D That seems oddly appropriate. 😛
I know the feeling! I’d be pulling strands out of the vacuum cleaner for WEEKS. When it wasn’t my hair, it was the carpet X-D

  8. REALLY need to get back into this, but life’s been full of distractions lately. Too much other stuff that needs doing. The goal is to try for something within the next two weeks. I can’t promise, but I will try.

    1. Sarah, We’re thrilled you’re joining the battles! Oasis is next week’s word, but I will hang on to this and add it to the entries and voting for then, for SURE! If you are feeling up to it, today’s word is Time. Welcome to the battle! ❤

        1. LOL Don’t worry about making it a draft. You can leave it up and it will still be there next week. It won’t hurt anything to leave it on your blog for now, though! 🙂 (I LOVE PUNS. You are welcome to insert them in any conversation we have!) 🙂

    1. Oh! I live that the prompt was enticing, even without making the deadline. I’ll add it to the list of reads for the theme. 🙂 Welcome to the battle. Next week’s word is “time.” Posting is on Tuesday before midnight Pacific time. Hope you’ll come back for more!

  9. I read about this on Rose B Fischer’s blog, and it sounds interesting. I’d like to participate next week (I’ve got too much going on this week). I have a Twitter account but I don’t do much with it. Can you participate mostly through word press? Thanks!

    1. That’s great! You sure can participate mostly through WP. Next week’s word is Time. 🙂 The word for the next week will usually be posted on the main blog battle page late in the day on the Tues before. Welcome to the battle!

  10. I’m looking forward to it. But I have to confess…I have help.

At my feet are Josie and Reebok, the Ridgeback Sisters (aka “THEM!!”) who are a fount of insurgency and revolutionary action. But right now they’re asleep.

And they are only the tip of the canine iceberg that informs my heart and animates my writing…in the background (can you hear it?) twelve more dogs are snoring, dreaming of anything, I think, but their lives before they came here. And there are more in the next room.

Walking through years chin-deep in death begets a love of life, and gives true meaning to the precious nature of innocence.
