#BlogBattle Week 6: Blonde

Okay, so I have to admit that this is actually the second short story that I wrote for the Blonde #BlogBattle. I would say neither is really better than the other, but this one is a little different, so I decided to share it for the #BlogBattle instead of the first (I will post that one on Friday, just because I wrote it and might as well share it. It’s also a cute little story). I hope you find the references dotted throughout this bit entertaining!

 I Learned It from History?

Channing whipped his head back around the corner of the building. He breathed out a sigh of relief as a bright red laser beam flew directly past, right where his pretty blonde head had been just seconds before.

“Just give up, Bertram! You’ll never escape,” he yelled at his opponent.

“I’ll give up when you grow–”

Channing jumped out from behind the building, his lasegun held out like he’d seen in the few remaining clips of history films like the one titled “The Magnificent Seven,” from three hundred years ago. His tuck-and-roll still needed some work, but today he pulled it off with less bruising than his previous attempts at the maneuver.

Bertram screamed from across the open space and fell back against the huge metallic crate, his dark hair flying forward into his face.

Channing pressed to his feet and charged toward the temporarily disabled Bertram. Curse this beautiful flowing mane of blonde locks, he grumbled to himself as the halo of tresses flew across his eyes.

The slight distraction was all Bertram needed. From his position on the ground, some fifteen feet away, he aimed at the maniac headed straight for him and fired. The red beam of light flew through the air making a slight sizzling sound as it singed any dust particles in its path.

Channing uncovered his eyes in time to see the projectile but too late to avoid it. The only thing that saved the blonde Hercules was his quick reflexes. The beam slammed into his shoulder, spinning him around and sending his sun-kissed hair into a chaos about him.

Why didn’t I tie this monstrous beast back? He crashed to the ground in a heap of pain, reaching for his injured shoulder and cursing the day he’d ever thought looking like Fabio the Great was a good idea.

Temporarily injured though he was, Channing lay unmoving on the ground, staring up through the web of blondeness covering his face. The next thing he saw was the shape of Bertram’s shadow looming over him.

“Tough luck, Chan. You were really close that time.”

“Shove it, Bertram.”

“Just sayin’,” he replied, followed by a chuckle.

Bertram held his hand out for Channing to take. As much as her wanted to knock

the gestured offering aside, it wasn’t what their ancestor, Blondie (a.k.a Eastwood), would have done. Begrudgingly, he accepted the hand up, and both men hobbled back to the virtual training ground’s entrance.

Someday they’d be like The Man With No Name and make a difference in their Wild World.

PS Because Ryan Gosling is in the process of releasing the movie he directed, Lost River, he has been popping up in feeds all across the wowiweb a lot lately. Lots of silly “hey girl,” memes to choose from! Anyway, as I was “researching” blondes for my story, because I made so many references throughout, I came across “Young Hercules” and found it amusing that, yes you guessed it, Ryan Gosling played one and the same.

Poor guy gets tons of flack, but I had to share because it’s funny how different stuff in life which one notices all tends to run together. An example is when you buy a new car and then you notice how many of the SAME car are driving around, but you didn’t realize it until after you got yours. 🙂 Anyway, this is all totally off topic, but had to share my silliness for the day!
